All About Bettas

Betta are small fish that can range in size from 1 inch (2.5 cm) long to 5.5 inches (14 cm) long depending on the Betta species. Unlike most fish, Bettas are what we scientist call anabantoids. This means they can breathe air using a unique organ called a labyrinth. This is why Bettas can be found in what most would consider to be unlikely places in the wild such as rice paddies, slow-moving streams, drainage ditches, and large puddles.
